Screen Time and Sleep
As we started to underline, there is a correlation between excessive social media use and detrimental effects that go beyond psychological well-being, extending to physical health from a completely holistic point of view🪢.
It’s so important to raise awareness about how excessive social media use can influence our general lifestyle and consciousness about this and the impact it has on our health 🔍💡.
A systematic review published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research found a significant correlation between excessive social media use and sedentary behavior in both adolescents and adults Villanti et al., 2017) 👟.
Moreover, the systematic review conducted by Alonzo et al. (2021) has shown that, overall, there is evidence that excessive social media use is linked to poor sleep quality and negative mental health in youth 💤.
This is to add to what we’ve already reported, that excessive social media exposure has been mostly linked to skipping breakfast, increased consumption of unhealthy snacks and sugar-sweetened beverages, lower intake of fruits and vegetables, and increased appetite, regardless of age (Sina et al., 2022) 🍟.
